Services / Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy as a clinical tool, not a wellness brand.

Yoga therapy in this practice is OT-led. We use specific yoga techniques — breathwork, gentle movement, body awareness, balance — when they will help your function. Not because they are fashionable, and not as a substitute for evidence-based intervention. Just as one tool among several.

When yoga therapy helps.

We use yoga therapy when it serves a clinical goal. The most common situations are:

  • Chronic pain where gentle, graded movement and breathwork support pacing and self-management.
  • Balance and falls prevention through targeted weight-shift, posture, and strength work.
  • Anxiety and tension affecting daily function — using breath techniques as a practical regulation tool.
  • Mobility recovery after injury or surgery, where graded movement supports return to function.
  • Cognitive and physical fatigue where breathwork and pacing strategies support energy management.

How it fits within OT.

Yoga therapy is not a separate service running alongside OT. It is delivered as part of an OT intervention plan, with documented functional goals, by an AHPRA-registered occupational therapist with yoga therapy training.

This matters for the NDIS. Plan managers ask the right question: what functional outcome does this support? We make sure the answer is in the service agreement, the session notes, and the progress reports. If yoga is the right tool for your goal, we use it. If something else is, we use that instead.

Common questions about yoga therapy.

Will the NDIS fund yoga therapy?

Yes — when it is delivered by an OT as part of a documented intervention plan with clear functional goals. It is billed under your Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living budget at the standard OT rate. We do not bill it as a generic wellness service.

Do I need to be flexible or "good at yoga"?

No. The work is calibrated to where you are right now. Most of what we do uses small, gentle movements. Many sessions are in a chair.

Can it be done over telehealth?

Yes, and it works well. We send any preparation notes ahead of the session. You need a clear space the size of a yoga mat — that's it.
